Come and run with us!
Tuesday 5 February 2013 Radesh Moodley

I manage the group and also accompany the runners on the various runs that we offer. The Penguins are for beginners who are:
- able to complete 3.5km
- attempting their first 21km
- racing 21km with a time of 2:15 - 3:00
- running at a pace of between 6:00min/km - 7:30min/km
The main aim of this group is to get people to learn how to enjoy running. In order to achieve this, I ask everyone in the group to train for at least 2-3 days a week and one on the weekend. In my experience, people who exercise less than this, prolong the pain of starting out and take a much longer time to make any meaningful progress towards enjoying running.
The regulars choose Monday OR Tuesday, then a Thursday and a weekend run. The weekend run can be either a race or a run on your own. It is compulsory to have one full day rest from running so you can give your muscles a chance to recover.
If as a beginner you think you might struggle to make 5km then you can also do a shortened 3.5km walk/run on the same route as us to start. You would start with us but turn back or take a shortcut back to the start where we would then catch up with you.
If you are faster than the above and or want to run longer distances then you would benefit by joining the main group of runners from AAC who also have a weekly programme of runs.
